Updated PANDAS and Essential Oils
One of the most frequent questions I receive is about using oils for PANDAS symptoms. Let me start by explaining that oils do not cure PANDAS but can help greatly with some of the most common symptoms based on my years working with clients:
1. Reducing exposure to pathogens. Oils like Germ Fighting Blend and Cleanse can greatly reduce a child's exposure to symptom stimuli by helping to eliminate pathogens both in the air and topically. Dilute according to your child's age for topical uses (soles of the feet 2-3 times daily) and diffuse in atomizing diffuser for 15 minutes to 20 minutes 2-3 times daily. Also use Germ Fighting Blend to make hand soaps and hand sanitizer to reduce exposures throughout the day! (recipe is on the bottle)
2. Anxiety/Stress/Tics/wakefulness/Inflammation: Oils that help calm the nervous system: Vetiver, Peace & Balance, ZZZ's (for sleep), Frankincense Carterii. Diffuse often in Atomizing Diffuser; Apply diluted to back of neck at brain stem (2-3 times daily); Place in personal inhaler to inhale as needed or at onset of symptoms like tics filled with vetiver and frankincense); FOCUS Blend may also assist with attention-type issues as well as tics). ***Diffuse Frankincense and Copaiba (50/50) for suspected inflammation in sessions of 15 minutes 2-3 times daily.*** (this can be very beneficial)
3. Yeast Overgrowth due to antibiotic use:
(speak with your doctor about dosage) as well as Oregano oil diluted to .5% on soles of feet 2-3 times a day for 10 days. (*internal use must be used with caution with help from your doctor)
Other things that help include higher amounts of Vitamin D (check with your doctor)
4. Repeated throat infections? Antibiotics are usually needed for strep. Many enjoy a gargle of a drop of sandalwood oil in 2-4 ounces of warm water daily to help avoid throat illnesses. This has been shown to be very helpful!!!!
