We recently learned of a new co-op opportunity and wanted to share: Hesperides Organica Farm, established in 2007, is located in the “Black Dirt” region of Orange County, NY. This fertile soil was formed 12,000 years ago when the glaciers receded leaving behind deep layers of decayed plant matter. While other farmland may contain 5 percent organic matter, the black dirt or “muck soil” as the locals call it, contain 50-90 percent organic matter. It’s basically a big bowl of compost! You can get your hands on these super-foods to feed your own family by joining the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) where members receive a weekly box of freshly-harvested, sustainably grown vegetables. We can't wait to try Black Dirt potatoes! Today we got a sample of their popcorn - which is still on the cob - what a fun visual for the kids! Josiah's Oils will also be selling our most popular products - like Organic Veggie Wash, Household Cleaners and Insect Repellents - at the farm's Hawthorne Pick-up location [150 Florence Ave, Unit C] on Tuesdays this summer!
