Babies who have DS are blessings like all other babies (maybe a little MORE of a blessing at that!!). Don't let anyone tell you otherwise! We live in a society that worships looks, money, intelligence and so-called perfection. Have you ever noticed however that NONE of that is ever achieved to satisfaction? I can't speak for all people with DS, but I can tell you my son
will not make the highest salary –who cares? - he is now and will forever be happy. His unconditional love for others is a reflection of God’s love in this world. He makes a lasting difference in this world with each and every smile to a stranger. If you are pregnant with a special baby with Down syndrome, or know someone who is, there is a lot of support out there! A wonderful site to start with is http://downsyndromepregnancy.org/where you will find a free downloadable book and much more information! There is also a friends and family booklet, which I found SO helpful when my son was born. Just to let people know it is OK to say congratulations. Blessings!
